The "2017 Building Lightning Protection Technology Exchange Conference (Guangzhou Station)" concluded successfully at the Architectural Design Institute of South China University of Technology. The conference was jointly organized by the Building Lightning Protection Academic Committee of the Chinese Society of Civil Engineering, the Guangdong Meteorological Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Association, the Guangdong Civil Engineering and Architecture Society's Building Electrical Professional Committee, the Guangzhou Design Institute, and the Architectural Design Institute of South China University of Technology. Approximately 150 electrical engineers and industry technicians from 36 design institutes, 19 lightning protection product manufacturing enterprises, and user units attended the meeting.

This is the final event of a series of activities organized by the Building Lightning Protection Academic Committee of the Chinese Society of Civil Engineering in 2017, aiming to enhance the level of effective measures for protecting buildings from lightning disasters and to promote academic exchanges and technical discussions in the field of building lightning protection.

SPD Backup Protector Product Application and Product Testing

For a long time, the application of SPD has played a positive and effective role in lightning protection of electrical systems. However, if SPD is not used in conjunction with dedicated protectors, there are potential safety hazards. The advent of SPD dedicated backup protectors (SCB) has solved the problem of precise protection for SPD. When SPD fails, SCB can disconnect SPD from the power system. Moreover, the SPD dedicated backup protectors (SCB) also have the ability to withstand lightning discharge current, the ability to interrupt overcurrent or short-circuit current caused by SPD failure, and the ability to interrupt small currents that may cause SPD to catch fire. Experts gave special reports on the past, present and future of backup protectors, the solved industry problems, product advantages and applications, product testing and determination.

Wang Fuyuan from Shanghai Lei Yuan Electrical Appliance Co., Ltd. presented a report titled "Future Concepts of SCB Backup Protective Devices", in which he introduced the principles and risks of SCB, and analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of SCB's instantaneous and delayed breakage.
